As Başkent University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Design and Architecture, we start our 5th International Symposium on Art and Design Education symposium of 2023 with the mission of creating a living and producing art and design education environment, with the theme of “Sustainability in Art and Design”, which we will organize as a hybrid symposium with both online and face-to-face sessions.

SYMPOSIUM PROGRAM
The purpose of the symposium is to address the theme of “sustainability”, which is important for art and design products, that are called cultural industries, to be produced by preserving their original values and qualities, to be sustainable in terms of diversity and ecological harmony, and to be preserved in terms of cultural heritage and transferred to future generations.
Sustainability in art and design products is far beyond being an individual issue that concerns the owner of the work and/or design; It is an important issue that affects society and, in a broader context, all humanity. Because in all art and design disciplines of today as a culture industry such as urban design, architectural design, communication design, advertising, cinema, television, animation, visual arts, textile and fashion design, gastronomy and culinary arts, industrial design; The expectation of high quality products with added value is not considered an output that can be put forward without sustainability awareness. On the other hand, protecting our world, which is the production environment and resource for sustainability, is too important to be left to choices at this point.
Today, environmental pollution and deteriorating natural balances threaten the entire world ecosystem. Whether or not many of the resources currently available will exist in the future is discussed from different perspectives and is the subject of discussion. In this context, the concept of “sustainability” comes to the fore. Sustainability refers to a balance that adapts to human needs without reducing the health and productivity of natural systems and encompasses all areas of life adapted to socio-economic, cultural and environmental contexts. Therefore, it is the goal of the symposium to discuss how to produce designs that consider the results that can convey this process to future generations.
TOPICS OF THE SYMPOSIUM
The 5th International Art and Design Education Symposium, which will be held on April 27-28, 2023, under the title of Sustainable Design; Within the scope of Diversity, Modularity, Openness and Matching Cycles; It is open to paper presentations on research, projects and applications made within the framework of the 3R rule of sustainability: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

TARGET AUDIENCE OF THE SYMPOSIUM AND CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION
The symposium, which is open to all disciplines related to the fields of art, design and education; It is aimed at professionals who produce works in the field of art and design as well as academics who are interested in the theme of sustainability, professionals from other occupational groups working in areas such as the distribution, export, import, marketing and protection of these works, and students who continue their graduate education.
The papers accepted and presented by the Distinguished Scientific Committee will be physically printed by obtaining the ISBN number after the editorial and visual design studies in a way that will meet the scientific publication criteria.
Participation in the symposium is possible with a fee. For all participants other than the student category, the participation fee with a single paper is 350 TL, double paper is 550 TL; For students, the participation fee for a single paper is 150 TL, and a double paper is 250 TL. Services included in the fee to be paid for participation;
